The Amazon River

*** I wrote this the first week of December and forgot to share it. ***
Over the last 8 days I’ve cruised 900 miles into the Amazon River.
The meeting of the waters phenomenon, where two different colored rivers "meet" but the waters don't merge, like you'd imagine they would.
Alter de Chao - they sell a lot of hammocks along the Amazon River to help people keep cool.
As you might expect: it’s very hot and humid. The water is very muddy- so much that even the ships filtering system doesn’t want to filter it (thank goodness, I wouldn’t want it to).
Looking back, I should’ve expected this, but it hadn’t crossed my mind: BUGS. If you can even call them that. They look more like behemoth, prehistoric creatures so large, gross, scary, and ABUNDANT.
I swear yesterday morning I saw a moth so large that it needed its own zip code.
What you might not expect: pink dolphins.
Yes that’s right, the Amazon River is home to pink dolphins. I was giddy when I had the opportunity to watch dozens of these lochness monster-esque beings crest the surface of the murky water.
I describe them this way because they’re very difficult to capture on camera because:
1: They don’t jump out of water exposing the majority of their body like most dolphins in my experience have.
2: Once they come up, it can be several minutes before they come up again, by that time in a whole new place.
Finally, the most shocking part of the Amazon River was the sunsets. Talk about cloud porn.
Cheers,
Tay
