Today marks halfway. I am halfway done with my cruise today. Wow. That hasn’t quite sank in yet, and there a lot of emotions that come with the thought.

Maputo, Mozambique 3/8/2023

Our first African country on the main land of Africa! Shauna and I did a short walking tour through the company and got to see the rail station, coined the 3rd most beautiful station in the world. We also saw a fort, walked through a market, and were treated to a yummy pastry and juice.

This was an adult size juice box lemme tell you. So much joy in holding a juice box like a child. It was really tasty too! A mix of mango, banana and a few other tropical fruits.

I keep saying this, and I’ll say it yet again… timing is EVERYTHING. We were walking back to the ship and ran into a parade.

Today is international women’s day, and we were able to celebrate by walking with other Mozambique women in a parade!

Damn, what a sentence. Had you said to me 6 months ago that this is what I would be doing, I wouldn’t have believed you.

Being immersed in the culture was very cool. The chitter chatter of people negotiating prices at the food market. The rank smell of the city streets in the hot sun. The vibrant colors of flags waving around as shauna and I walked with the other women in the parade.

In all, a very good day. We had debated getting off here because we had to pay an $85 visa for just a few hour visit... After a lot of consideration we decided we should. And I'm happy that we did!

"If you were sitting at home on your couch in Nevada, and someone came to you and said: wanna go to Mozambique tomorrow for $85? Would you say yes?"

Perspective.

3/6/2023 PARTY

Oh, by the way. There was a party. A big one! An incredible one. Easily my favorite nights on a sea day. I’m not entirely sure why we had this party, it was a surprise.

And if you know me, you know I LOVE SURPRISES.

And if you don’t know me, now you know I LOVE SURPRISES!

This was a party for crew and guests alike. I think they may have done it because we didn’t end up going to Madagascar? But I can’t be certain.

Anyway, free wine, Nyron (the Shore Excursion Manager) was the dj, and a dance floor…

chefs kiss.

It was SO FUN to have crew and guests, old and young, dancing all together. Seeing some of these 70+ year old people getting down to Fireball by Pitbull. People in wheelchairs dancing… warmed my heart.

Cheers,

Tay
