Oh how things come full circle

Let’s work our way through Adelaide backwards.

At the end of a hike on Mt. Lofty to a waterfall- shauna fell and twisted (potentially sprained… that’s still in the air) her ankle.

We hiked 2.5 miles downhill to the waterfall

and needed to hike the 2.5 back up… that wasn’t going to happen.

To our surprise, there was a small cafe not far down from the waterfall.

Long story short, we were able to hitch a ride back to the train station with the cafe’s chef- Josh- after his shift. We were able to wait 45 minutes inside the air conditioned cafe... He was incredibly kind, and we were so grateful for his willingness to help. Filled with tattoos, long pulled back hair, and jamming to Rabbit Run by Eminem, he told us about himself, his wife and two kids, and what it was like growing up in Adelaide.

We started this day on the 45 minute train ride from the cruise port to into Adelaide. To pass the time, we naturally played “things that would send a Victorian into a coma” to which one of my answers: Eminem rapping.

Aside from a day of hitchhiking, ankle twisting, and hiking (where a woman told us to look out for poisonous snakes because she had seen a lot of them)…. We also saw the Central Market which was incredible. Paella. Need I say more?

Well, actually. I do need to say more. Because there was cheese with ants on it for $40AUD

We also walked through Chinatown

And saw St. Francis Xavier Cathedral

The day prior (2/15) we went to Haigh’s Chocolate (famous for still using real cocoa beans). Their samples were great.

wandered around the mall where we stumbled upon a Salvador Dali sculpture

saw the botanical gardens

An amazing state library

The incredible- and free- museum of southern Australia known for their giant 3 story squid. I was impressed by their 3 story exhibit on the aboriginal cultures, which featured things such as a 10,000 year old boomerang. But, we also saw a mummy that dated back to the same time as Christ.

A cute aesthetic place to get a yummy raspberry beer and nachos.

AND.

WAIT FOR IT….

KMART!

“It always makes me laugh when we see tourists here. Why would someone come to Australia and think: let’s go to Adelaide” - an Adelaide local

No worries,

What a fun stop in Adelaide. How is Shauna’s ankle doing now?
